About the State Theatre Centre

Located on the corner of Roe and William Streets in Northbridge, the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia will feature the 575 seat Heath Ledger Theatre and the 200+ seat flexible Studio Underground. Also included in the Centre is The Courtyard, a multi-purpose outdoor events space, two rehearsal rooms and two flexible use private suites.

Designed by award-winning Kerry Hill Architects, the design will deliver a building which will not only provide a functional and inspiring venue for performers and their audiences, but will also be a defining architectural landmark for Perth.

The State Theatre Centre will present contemporary performing arts, such as theatre and dance, in diverse ways with a focus on distinctive professional and contemporary work produced locally, nationally and internationally.State Theatre Centre of Western Australia

Building the Centre

November 2009

The powered flying system is being installed in the fly-tower and fit-out of the tower cladding will soon be underway.

In Heath Ledger Theatre the orchestra-pit lift is being installed. The final pre-cast panels outside the theatre are being completed and the concrete slab to the theatre roof will soon be cast.

The large acoustic doors to separate the scene dock from Heath Ledger Theatre will be in place in early November.

Glazing and temporary carpet to the William Street buildings is being fitted and once complete, the John Holland project team and contractors will move into the upper level of the William Street building to free up the Chester Building for renovations.

In December the main crane for the site will be removed and this will make way for the bronze box at the entry to be completed and for the glazing along Roe Street to commence.
